When the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow replaced the Silver Cloud, the brand introduced several revolutionary changes. The Silver Shadow was built with a monocoque body, moving away from the independent chassis used previously. It also featured all-around disc brakes and a high-quality hydraulic height control system.
In 1970, Rolls-Royce increased the V8 engine displacement from 6,230 cc to 6,750 cc. In 1977, the Silver Shadow II was launched, incorporating major innovations such as rack-and-pinion steering and a fully automatic air conditioning system. This model was recognizable by its black rubber bumpers, introduced on American models earlier, and from 1978, by its headlight wipers.
This Silver Shadow II at Classic Park dates from 1978 and includes nearly all the innovations introduced during its 15 years of production. It features a rare Parkertex Savoy Velvet velour upholstery, an exclusive fabric primarily ordered by Arab customers in the late 1970s who preferred high-quality interior material over leather, which they found too warm.
The Parkertex interior is in excellent condition, as is the woodwork and the Everflex headliner. The paint, in the beautiful Willow Gold color, is also in good condition.
Delivered new in England in 1978, this Silver Shadow II was imported into the Netherlands in 1996. Most maintenance records from 1978 through 2008 have been preserved. In subsequent years, the car underwent annual inspections but was rarely driven. Visually, it is in above-average condition. A technical inspection and maintenance are recommended.
