Description

An extraordinary unit of the 1968 Simca 1200 S Coupé Bertone, superbly preserved and maintained; a truly rare car, with only 14,000 units produced between 1967 and 1971, of which few surviving units remain registered.

The Simca 1200 S is a classic 2+2 coupé designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, where the bodies were also assembled before being shipped from Turin to the Simca factory in Poissy, France. The car is powered by a powerful 1204cc rear longitudinal rear-wheel drive engine with two Solex C35 twin-barrel carburettors producing 85 bhp at 6,000 rpm, which, combined with a weight of less than 900 kg, allowed it to reach 175 km/h.

The interior, designed by Paolo Martin (Pininfarina), is very sporty and elegant, with a dashboard featuring three large Jaeger clocks built into wood, and even in the first units (such as this one) with a solid wood and aluminium steering wheel. The car is also equipped with a Becker Europa car radio and very nice Cromodora magnesium wheels, model CD26, designed for this car.

The car was originally registered in Zurich (Switzerland) and brought to Spain in 1977. It has since had two owners and I have owned it since 2016. The car is completely original, it has only been repainted in its original colour, the engine and gearbox are the originals (“matching numbers”) and the upholstery is the original.

The wood on the dashboard and steering wheel has been restored (using the same type of wood as the original) by hand by a cabinetmaker, the magnesium wheels have been decontaminated and sealed, the engine (cylinder head, valves, seats) has been adapted for unleaded petrol, it has been fitted with electronic ignition, an OMP manifold and a new electrical system, in addition to the extensive maintenance work carried out on a 58-year-old car, for which I have records covering the last 32 years, with tens of thousands of euros invested in it.

Everything in the car works perfectly, and it can be driven long distances without any problems. It is a very striking car due to its beautiful design, its rarity, its condition and its spectacular sound. It is a very exclusive classic in magnificent condition.

Registered as a classic vehicle, with MOT until March 2030. Car located in Valencia (Spain).
