How could it be otherwise, because this TR2 was recently professionally 'body-off' restored by a skilled restoration company, with an eye for detail and originality. Thanks to this originality, the car is ideally suited to participate in the famous Mille Miglia rally. The exceptional condition of the car is also evident from the valuation report from July 2025, in which the car is described as excellent (condition 1). The so-called "Long-Door" (first series) began its life on August 27, 1954, when it left the factory in Great Britain and (like most examples) was shipped to the sunny climate of the United States. Here it was delivered in 1955, hence this year appears in the books as the year of construction. The car was eventually imported to the Netherlands in 1992, where it was eventually restored. Present with the car is a folder including invoices of parts, an originality certificate (1993), import documents, valuation reports (2025 and 1996), RDW documents and photos from before the restoration. Instruction/workshop manuals are also present with the car. Just broken in from restoration, this excellent Triumph may now pass to a new enthusiast.EXTERIOR What a picture: the classic look of the TR2 comes into its own beautifully in the color 'Prime Rose Yellow' and is beautifully contrasted with the burgundy interior. This is an early produced 'Long-Door' model, which can be recognized by the long side doors without a sill at the bottom. The authentic small grille is also known as the 'bomb crater' grille. The archetype of the Triumph TR series. Obviously, the car is optically in top condition. For safety reasons, a catch hook has been added to the hood. The headlights are of type P700. The soft top is new, and therefore in excellent condition. The wheels are also in very good condition, with the distinctive Triumph logo. Originally, many chrome parts on the bodywork, such as on the hood and side screens, were painted in the color of the car in the first series of the TR2. Because this was an extra operation at the time, it cost more, and therefore in later models these chrome parts were no longer painted in the color. The seams of the car are clean.INTERIORThe interior, the side screens and the soft top are newly delivered by a specialized company and is therefore in excellent condition. The seats and rear seat are upholstered in leather and the rest of the interior and trunk have velour upholstery. Everything in an equally beautiful, as good as new condition. The same goes for the trunk, which can accommodate the soft top, tonneau cover and original tools. The tonneau cover and soft top are from Mercedes Classic line and of high quality. For safety, modern seat belts are fitted.TECHNICALThe car still has the original engine which has been overhauled. Also technically, the car has been skillfully restored, with attention to originality. The drum brakes all around are thus retained, as well as the Lockheed rear axle. This rear axle does have Revington thrust shafts, as Triumph's original thrust shafts break in many cases. The original steering and hood locking system have also been retained. A ground switch is mounted, invisible behind the dash. In addition, Triumph features anti-theft, anti-self ignition, an aluminum radiator (painted black), original A-type overdrive, a narrow modern V-belt, electric ignition and the authentic "high-torque" starter motor. The original DC alternator has been converted to AC alternator. ALGEMENTThe Triumph TR2 was the successor to the aging Roadster and was to compete with MG's popular, light sports cars. Especially in the United States, where a very large proportion of these sports cars were sold. With 8,636 built, the number seems small, yet it was a successful model for the time. It foreshadowed great successes of the following TR models, of which more than 200,000 were sold. In 1952, ééone example of the prototype 20TS was built (also known as TR1), which formed the basis for the TR2. The TR2 went into production in 1953 and was succeeded by the TR3 in 1955. In terms of performance, the TR2 was a frontrunner against competitors: thanks to a low weight of 900 kg and a relatively powerful 1,994 cc 4-cylinder engine with 2 carburetors and 94 hp, it was faster than, for example, the MG TF, and even the later-produced MGA was less powerful and fast than the TR2. In 12 seconds, the TR2 sprinted to 100 mph. The car therefore came close to the performance of an Austin-Healey, but was considerably more affordable. About 4,000 examples of the TR2 first produced were the so-called "Long-Door" versions. The absence of the sill makes this version lighter than later models, which is reflected in its agility and sporty handling.Triumph TR2 Roadster 1955- Excellently and professionally restored “body-off” to extremely original condition- Valuation report 2025: Condition 1 (top condition)- Eligible for participation in the Mille Miglia- Original overdrive- Mass key and anti-theft device- Aluminum radiator- “Long-Door” version (First and rarest model from the legendary TR series)HISTORY/DOCUMENTATIONA car is not often described as perfect, but this Triumph is truly in excellent condition.
