A 1962 Aston Martin, finished in Aegean Blue, was driven for years between Lyon and the surrounding vineyards. The DB4 Series IV was built between 1961 and 1962 and marked an important step toward the later DB5. Aston Martin made several design adjustments, including a lower-profile air scoop on the hood, updated taillights, and a new grille. These minor changes gave the car a more refined and modern look.
This particular car is a Vantage SS, not just an ordinary Series IV. Toward the end of DB4 production, Aston Martin built a small series of cars equipped with the more powerful Special Series engine. This engine featured three SU carburetors, modified cylinder heads, larger valves, a higher compression ratio, and an oil cooler, significantly increasing power output. The Vantage SS was also fitted with the DB4 GT’s instrument cluster, which includes separate gauges for various functions.
Only 45 DB4 Vantage SS Series IVs were built, and only 14 of these left the factory with a left-hand drive configuration, making it considerably rarer than a DB5. This Aston Martin was delivered new by Garage Mirabeau in Paris to Seigneur Suetet of Lyon. It spent most of its life in Lyon and the surrounding region, where narrow roads, rolling countryside, and vineyards provide an ideal setting for this caliber of car.
The original color scheme is Aegean Blue with a White Gold interior. The deep blue accentuates the long hood and flowing body lines, while the light interior offers a pleasing contrast. The car is in exceptionally fine condition, with the exterior, interior, and mechanical components all maintained to the high standards expected of an Aston Martin. It features a beautiful paint job, a sleek body, and a smooth-running engine, representing a very good example of this model.
This left-hand-drive DB4 Vantage SS Series IV retains its original color scheme and has a long history in Lyon. Rare, powerful, refined, and exceptionally beautiful—this car is even more exclusive than a DB5.
