This fantastic VW Beetle was sold new in Victoria, Australia, hence the right-hand drive driving position. The car had lived in Australia with one owner for 61 (!) years until it was imported to the Netherlands in 2017. The owner used the car to run errands in the neighbourhood, and only had regular services done to it. This Beetle never was a “barn find” but it is an original survivor! The car shows signs of use and age, the paint is worn, the upholstery is worn, and the carpet is worn… But the bodywork and the mechanicals are rust free and in full good working order! All the scars of a life of hard work can be clearly seen and the car can only be applauded for that!
This wonderful original example should never be restored but be enjoyed and loved as it is. From new this VW Beetle has driven 95.000 miles, and the car still drives beautifully because of all the TLC it has received over the decades. After import to the Netherlands, it transpired that the old “semaphores” (mechanical direction indicators) had to be put out of use to comply to road legislations. Simple orange direction indicator lamps were fitted, these can easily be removed again if needed.
This 1956 VW Beetle comes with a surprise; the car is eligible to participate in the Italian 1000 Miglia! This Volkswagen Beetle comes with a shipload of character and lots of driving fun. This is a rare opportunity to buy a fully original VW Beetle “oval window”.
