This rare Volkswagen “standard” oval bug was manufactured on November 19, 1956, in Wolfsburg, Germany and subsequently delivered to a Volkswagen dealership in Mannheim. Around 1961, the vehicle crossed to the eastern side of the “Iron Curtain,” the physical and ideological boundary dividing Eastern and Western Europe during the Cold War. During this period, this bug was mainly driven in Gera, near Jena, as evidenced by DDR documentation indicating a single owner.
Following its rediscovery, this oval bug underwent a comprehensive, multi-year restoration, with no expense spared. The outcome is an authentic 1956 oval Standard Beetle, both mechanically and aesthetically pristine. All components, including the braking system, electrical setup, engine, and transmission, function flawlessly.
