Volkswagen SP2 1975
* Very rare appearance
* Powerful and smooth 1.7L boxer engine
* 14" 'Melber' wheels
* One of the 11,123 produced copies
With a rather hefty import tax and import restrictions, Volkswagen started in Brazil with the development of a sports car for its home market as a successor to the Karmann-Ghia. Drawn internally by designers Marcio Piancastelli, José Vicente Novita Martins and Jorge Yamashita Oba, the result was stunningly beautiful. Inspired by Porsche's transaxle series. This second-generation coupé, produced in small series, was fitted with a 1.7-litre air-cooled boxer engine at the rear. The SP2 was made over a production life of almost 4 years. Only 11,123 were produced. Born from a company independent of its German bosses, it is arguably the most beautiful and one of the rarest Volkswagens ever built.
This stylish 1975 Volkswagen SP2 was produced for the Brazilian market. In 1984 this car already got a Dutch registration.
Originally executed in yellow, this copy was later given a new red paint. The 1,700cc boxer engine is coupled to a manual four-speed gearbox. Equipment includes wide 14" Melber alloy wheels, front disc brakes and four-headlight units
The interior is equipped with manually adjustable seats. The black cloth seats are finished with red center panels, along with matching black 'Perlon' style door panels. Additional equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, wooden gear knob and glovebox.
The counter instruments on the dashboard include a speedometer, tachometer, as well as gauges for engine temperature, voltage and fuel level and an analog clock. The five-digit odometer shows 23,678 kilometers
Unique opportunity to acquire and drive this rare SP2. Because the car has stood still in a collection for the last year and a half, the car needs some technical love. If you would like to take the red paintwork to a higher level, then complete refinishing is a great option. Given the current market developments, this is definitely worth it.
