1967 Volkswagen T1 Restomod
Classic soul – modern driving pleasure
Few vehicles symbolize freedom, adventure, and pure car culture quite like the Volkswagen T1. From the surf beaches of California to the narrow streets of Europe, the iconic “Bulli” became the symbol of an entire generation. While the handling of an original T1 is charmingly nostalgic, this beautifully restored 1967 Volkswagen T1 addresses that with a high-end Restomod restoration.
The van retains its legendary design, high seating position, panoramic view, and timeless appeal. It has undergone an extensive restoration, with many body panels replaced with high-quality sheet metal for durability. Floor panels have been replaced, and the vehicle has received thorough anti-rust treatment. The paintwork, finished in period-correct Porsche colors, features a black-and-silver two-tone scheme that complements the elegant lines of the T1. A ceramic coating protects the deep gloss for the long term. Original parts such as the front doors and tailgate have been retained where possible to preserve the van’s character.
The quality of the restoration is immediately noticeable. Panel fitment, paint depth, and meticulous details give the van a look that is difficult to fully capture in photographs.
Although the original handling of a T1 has its charm, this model is equipped with Red9 Design independent front and rear suspension, combined with all-around disc brakes. This upgrade significantly improves stability, braking, and confidence in modern traffic. The van sits on attractive Fuchs-style alloy wheels, adding a subtly sporty character. It remains unmistakably a classic Volkswagen T1 but can keep up with modern traffic with ease.
Power comes from a lively 1635cc air-cooled boxer engine, equipped with twin Weber carburetors, producing approximately 110 hp. Despite the increased power, the driving experience remains smooth, with the characteristic sound and feel of the classic air-cooled engine fully preserved.
The interior has been completely rebuilt with craftsmanship and comfort in mind. It features dark brown leather upholstery with a diamond pattern, matching door panels, an Alcantara headliner, a classic wooden steering wheel, and stylish wooden flooring. An Alpine audio system has been installed for added convenience. The rear seat folds out into a full-size double bed, making the van ideal for weekend trips or spontaneous overnight stays. Above the rear cabin, a large sliding roof spans nearly the entire length, allowing plenty of natural light and creating a spacious atmosphere.
Iconic details include front and side safari windows, an original canvas roof, and other characteristic features, completing the timeless look of this restored T1.
