While taste is, of course, subjective, the Volvo P1800 is generally regarded as one of the most beautiful and stylish classic cars to come out of Sweden. This 2+2 sports car was produced from 1961 to 1972. Initially, this stunning Volvo was available exclusively as a coupé, but toward the end of its production run, a shooting brake version—the P1800 ES—was also introduced. The design is largely the work of Italian designer Pietro Frua, with a significant contribution from Swedish designer Pelle Peterson. The 2.0-litre engine is equipped with dual SU carburettors and runs exceptionally smoothly and quietly. The four-speed manual transmission features an electrically operated Laycock de Normanville overdrive, providing added comfort at higher speeds. The stunning whitewall tyres are brand new, and the car has very recently undergone a major service. This Volvo P1800S shifts and steers with great smoothness, and the brakes feel solid and responsive.
