A Volvo P1800 in gold with beige leather upholstery; that's nice we said here at Gallery Aaldering. A very classy and in our opinion tasteful color scheme. That does a lot to a car and this Volvo certainly benefits from it!The Volvo P1800 is a beautiful classic that owes its fame in part to the popular television series "The Saint" starring Roger Moore. During its introduction in 1960, the P1800 was a remarkable appearance for the usually conservative Swedish manufacturer. Based in part on the 121 sedan, the Volvo P1800 was initially produced by Jensen Motors in West Bromwich and featured a robust 1,778cc four-cylinder engine. With twin carburetors, this engine produced 100 horsepower, good for a top speed of about 170 mph. That was fine performance at the time. The car also had independent front suspension and a rigid rear axle, and was equipped with servo-assisted disc brakes at the front. In 1963, production of the P1800 was transferred to Sweden. In 1969, the P1800E received an engine capacity of 1,985 cc and was fitted with Bosch electronic fuel injection, which increased power to 130 hp. In addition, disc brakes on all wheels became standard. This particular 1972 example is in beautiful condition, both inside and out. The car has been carefully maintained with original parts and comes with extensive documentation, including service records and history. The paint has been repainted in the past and still looks neat with minimal signs of use, and the bodywork is tight and in clean condition. The white white walls give the car a classic look, while the rubbers and windows are in very good condition. The chrome trim has developed a beautiful patina, adding to the authentic look of the car.The interior of this Volvo P1800E is truly fantastic. The seats have been reupholstered in high-quality beige leather, which looks stunning and is very comfortable. The carpets are also in excellent condition. The interior is further in authentic and beautiful condition, with the correct Smiths clocks and a neat dashboard that is in great condition. The extensive documentation shows that the car has always received the necessary maintenance, which can be seen from the accompanying invoices. This Volvo starts smoothly, the engine runs nicely and once on the road this example drives as you would expect from a real Volvo: solid and with a touch of sportiness. The engine is nice and quiet, shifting is smooth and the steering feel is fine.In short, this 1972 Volvo P1800E is a wonderful classic ready for many carefree miles.
