Description

In August 1958, Volvo introduced the PV544, a more modern version of the PV444. The changes were the most extensive since the PV444 was introduced in 1944.
The body received a larger, convex windshield, together with a larger rear window, to improve visibility.
The interior received a new dashboard with a padded upper section for more safety in the car.
The speedometer was of the 'thermometer' type; a red strip showed the speed. The rear seat was renewed to improve comfort, and to provide space for an extra person.
This model was also technically renewed. The Volvo PV444 was (except in North America) only available with one engine option.
With the arrival of the PV544, a second version was added. For the first time, a manual transmission with 4 gears was also available.

Under the sheet metal, the PV544 was continuously renewed.
The most important change took place in 1961: Volvo installed the famous B18 engine under the hood and installed a 12 volt electrical system.
The Volvo PV544 became one of the most successful rally cars at the end of the fifties and the beginning of the sixties.

The Volvo that we offer here is from 1962 and is a Sport version equipped with the famous B18 engine!
The car was restored years ago by an enthusiast and after we were allowed to take over the car, the car was brought back to life by us after a long period of inactivity.
In the meantime, the car had a so-called dormant license plate, this was also reactivated by us at the RDW.
What is striking when driving is that everything feels so direct and solid.
Do not expect a newly restored car, optically you can already see some traces of the years on the car.
But a beautiful classic Volvo for the enthusiast!
