Vintage motorhome from 1961 FBW Samba - Bus
A unique opportunity to experience a one-of-a-kind Samba bus with manual doors
doors, countless windows
( 39 windows plus 12 sliding windows)
and a fabulous "shark" design.
Approved as a motorhome with H license plate. Power steering? Yes, of course.
This motorhome from 1961, unique in every respect, is for sale.
It is a genuine Swiss vehicle from FBW
This bus was specially built for driving over Alpine passes and is therefore very narrow and has the steering wheel on the right-hand side, so that the driver always has the abyss directly in view.
The driver and passenger windows can be opened with a crank, just like in a car. The 12 sliding windows can also be opened all around for good ventilation and draught.
It also has 2 large roof hatches and an extremely powerful fresh air fan in the front.
The front windows are tinted to shield the driver and front passenger from the sun's rays.
The upper windows are also tinted. Overall, the "Samba" bus with its countless windows compares favorably with the iconic VW Bus T1 Samba and can easily keep up with it.
Especially in terms of quality and price.
The overall condition of the camper van is excellent and the mileage of 593,000 km is absolutely nothing for this 11-liter bus with a mid-engine.
The FBW has 60 years of maintenance and care in Switzerland behind it, which is something to be proud of.
The FBW club in Switzerland has a huge stock of spare parts just in case, and the club's aim is to see all FBW vehicles on the road for a very long time to come.
There is a very interesting movie on youtube under:
" The Postbus - NZZ documentary "
The motorhome is now definitely equipped for the next 60 years and the next 500,000 km.
The vehicle comes with complete documentation, from the handwritten data sheet to all technical manuals with maintenance instructions and books on Swiss Postbuses, in which this bus is of course listed and described.
Even the cost breakdown for the 1961 bus is available:
The bus cost a whole 172,635 Swiss francs in 1961
The unique Swiss underfloor engine and the semi-automatic torque converter transmission were installed in many FBW buses and have proven their worth to this day!
The pretty little camping bus is shifted completely without a clutch. There is no need for a clutch.
This means that the driver can operate the horn or switch the lights on and off at any time with his left foot without interruption.
Power steering? Yes, of course. It's child's play to steer.
While the gearbox and engine have been installed in countless FBW vehicles, this bus only exists once in exactly this form and design:
This bus is "The crowning glory of shark design" - a one-off!
Tires: 6 x Michelin 12 R 225 as good as new
The Büssle is registered as a motorhome with an H license plate for 7 people.
It has 2 large double beds and therefore 4 - 6 sleeping places.
The entire camping equipment is extremely robust and high quality and technically almost up to date.
The motorhome is registered and ready to go; get in and drive off - provided the driver has a driving license for vehicles over 7.5 tons.
