The 500 Giardiniera was introduced in the spring of 1960 and would end its long career under the Autobianchi brand, from 1968 until 1977 with a total of about 330,000 examples produced.
From its introduction, the Giardiniera would retain its "wind-up" doors until the end of its production in 1977 this was because commercial vehicles benefited from an exemption to the 1964 Italian law regarding the direction of door opening.
