The Bentley Continental IV Convertible is one of the most exclusive convertible models the brand has ever built. It was the final model in the so-called 50,000 series and was produced in a limited run of just 73 units. This makes it not just a rare Bentley, but a car that was virtually unheard of even within Bentley’s already quite exclusive lineup.The Continental was based on the well-known Corniche but was given a more distinct character of its own. In the 1980s and 1990s, Bentley sought to distinguish itself more clearly from Rolls-Royce. The Continental was therefore given a sportier look, modified details, and an interior with its own instruments and trim. It’s not a modern sports car, but rather an open grand tourer with more character than you might expect based on its elegant lines.Under the long hood lies the familiar 6.75-liter V8, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Everything about this powertrain revolves around smoothness and refinement. The Bentley doesn’t need to prove how fast it is. It accelerates with the same ease with which a good hotel brings your luggage to your room: without haste, without fuss, and without you having to lift a finger.This particular example is finished in Arctic White with an interior in Soft Brown Connelly leather. That already sounds exceptionally chic, and in reality, it certainly is. The light-colored exterior gives the car an almost Mediterranean look, while the brown leather provides just the right amount of warmth. This Bentley was originally shipped from California to Marbella and later came into the hands of a satisfied Dutch owner. It’s hard to imagine a more fitting life story for a Bentley convertible. Sun, wide boulevards, palm trees, and long drives along the coast are simply the perfect match for a car of this caliber.The Continental was well-maintained by a specialist and is in excellent condition. That’s important, because these are cars that were hand-built by Mulliner Park Ward using traditional “coachbuilding” methods. The Continental IV is often described as the last true Bentley convertible. A classically built four-seater convertible, equipped with a massive V8, lavishly finished leather, and a presence that is rarely seen today.
