The second model built by Rolls-Royce in Derby to bear the Bentley brand name was the Bentley 4 ¼. For an extra payment of £50, a 4 ¼ liter engine was offered from March 1936 for the 3 ½ liter chassis, which was very well received by the market. The 1:1 ratio in 4th gear and the improved white metal bearings ensured stress-free driving over long distances, even on freeways, then as now.
Until the complete restoration of the car by Mr. Stanley Graham Thompson between 1975 and 1979, the car changed hands 10 times (documents available). The restoration was a full restoration - body off - including a general engine overhaul.
