VIN: 01643.

This LHD manual 1938 Aero Type 30 Roadster has 13,346 on the odometer, which doesn’t indicate if the calibration is mph or km/h. As the top speed indicated on the odometer is only ‘130’, it may be the former.

We haven’t started or driven the car, so we can only assess it on its cosmetic condition.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with very little in the way of history or service records, although it does have an old German licencing document.

However, this exact car was bought by the current vendor at a Bonhams auction in Reims in 2010 and the following is taken from the auction listing on that occasion.

“This example of a beautiful yet little known 1930s sports car was purchased by the [then] vendor in 2001 though, sadly, the previous owner was unable to provide any information about its history. After the purchase, the Aero spent five years in a garage in Germany before being sent to 'Classico' in Maastricht for restoration. The car has been re-sprayed in black, the interior has received new Burgundy carpets, and all the exterior brightwork has been re-chromed. In addition, the water tank was welded and repaired, some rewiring carried out, and the starter fixed.

The vendor believes the car to be '95%' original, the missing tachometer-mounted clock and the horn button (relocated from the steering wheel to the dashboard) being the only notified deviations from factory specification.

Since the restoration's completion in June 2009 the unregistered car has been kept garaged and has covered only 50-or-so kilometres.”

Given that this car has been kept warm, dry and inactive since that was written, we’re inclined to think that it presents an accurate and relevant narrative description of the car’s very good overall condition.
