Description

The 1972 Cadillac Coupe de Ville belongs to the last generation of the classic, generously proportioned Cadillac coupes from the early 1970s. Within the Cadillac lineup, the Coupe de Ville was the two-door version of the De Ville series, a model name that had been used since the late 1950s for the brand’s luxury mid-range models. During this period, Cadillac remained strongly focused on comfort, features, and a distinctly American style, with the Coupe de Ville distinguishing itself through its low roofline, long body, and prestigious character.

The 1972 model year fell during a transitional period for the American automotive industry. Emissions regulations, changing safety standards, and the impending oil crisis influenced the technical development and market position of large V8 coupes such as the Cadillac Coupe de Ville. The emphasis was still on space, prestige, and effortless handling, but the market for this type of car began to shift in the years that followed. Precisely for this reason, a 1972 model is considered a quintessential representative of the final phase of the traditional full-size Cadillac.

This Cadillac Coupe de Ville was purchased new in Michigan in 1972. Two weeks after the purchase, the car changed hands due to the first owner suffering a severe heart attack and was subsequently taken to Golden, Colorado. The owner’s manual and the sales receipt are still with the car. The car has always been stored in a dark garage and has remained entirely original. The odometer reading started at 38,300 miles and now stands at approximately 45,300 miles.

The Cadillac Coupe de Ville is known for its substantial body, long wheelbase, and distinctive early-1970s styling. From a technical standpoint, the model was designed for a smooth and comfortable ride, with an emphasis on sound insulation and ease of use. Within the Cadillac lineup, the Coupe de Ville held an important place as a two-door body style alongside the four-door models, with a design that, during this period, closely aligned with the American preference for wide, low-slung luxury cars.

This example has remained entirely original, including the original spare tire. The alternator has been replaced. New brakes and brake rotors have recently been installed all around, as well as a new master cylinder. The car has recently been made roadworthy according to Tüv / RDW standards and drives well. This combination of original condition and thorough maintenance makes the Cadillac Coupe de Ville a historically authentic car from its year of manufacture.

The 1972 Cadillac Coupe de Ville represents the classic American luxury coupe from the final years of the era of large, traditionally styled Cadillacs. This example was originally delivered new in Michigan, has remained completely original, and comes with the owner’s manual, sales receipt, and original spare tire. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend that you attend the viewing day.
