1955 Chevrolet 4 door Station Wagon
Timeless styling and iconic status in American automotive history. Chevy got the 55 right as its first model of the tri 5s. Many prefer the clean and simple lines of the '55. This wagon is truly a one of a kind spacious car that drives great and is reliable.
This vehicle received a “frame on” restoration in northern California where I purchased it in about 2010. Since then it has always been stored in heated garage. The 210 Model body and frame are rust free and fully restored. Body was totally stripped of any previous paint and then recolored with two stage, base-coat clear-coat in medium blue with white top. All bright work is either new, replated, or polished. It would be considered a “resto-rod” as there have been a number of modern upgrades. Yet, from the outside, it appears to be an original, restored, stock Chevrolet.
Engine was new from GM, ZZ-4 with 350 CI displacement includes 4 bolt main, roller cam and rockers, aluminum heads and was installed during the restoration. Transmission was new from GM, a 700R4 which is an automatic with OD. Power Steering and power brakes with the fronts being disc. Rear axle is 3:08 Positraction. It has good power, is rattle free, has always started, and can get 20+ MPG on the open road. A front sway bar has been added. The AC has been surprisingly effective.
When you lay the second seat down, there is even enough room to sleep in it. Upholstery is herring bone black and white fabric insert combined with black leather in a traditional looking pattern. New black carpets and headliner. Gauges are original to 1955 and all work as they should—even the clock which is upgraded to quartz! A Sun tachometer has been tastefully added below the dash. Radio appears to be a stock looking Wonder Bar, but is actually a newer type electronic with AM/FM. This wagon received a Vintage Air type AC upgrade. There is a GM stock exterior sun visor which is aided by the original Traffic Viewer on the dash to see a traffic light above. This works like a prism and is very effective. There is a period correct compass on the dash. The tilting Steering Column is an “Ididit” brand. Steering wheel is a tasteful metal spoke with wood rim. Wheels are a later 15 X 7” version with new Dog-Dish type 1955 covers and beauty rings. Radial Tires have about 14,000 miles on them, but are dated. Fuel Tank and sender are new.
We have used this vehicle for numerous week-end type trips and it has been enjoyed. Vehicle has been well maintained since we have owned it. Clear Colorado title in my name and will transfer easily. We have been driving it for about 12 years and have put around 14,000 summer miles on it. All the maintenance I have done myself. So, you are welcome to ask any questions about this great car.
