1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer CST
Complete frame-off nut and bolt restoration on the original GM drive train of this factory medium blue K5 CST.
Acquired in 2014 from a seller in North Carolina with significant rust issues, requiring a full restoration. The current owner began restoration in 2021, disassembling the entire drivetrain, chassis, and body. The paint and body work were completed in 2023 at FRC Customs in Orem, Utah, with three coats of GM medium blue paint and six coats of clear over epoxy primer. The entire body, top and bottom, was painted with rust-proof epoxy primer. The chassis was powder coated by North County Powder Coating in San Diego. The paint and body are laser-straight, with lines on the doors, hood, and tailgate perfectly aligned and free of waves or imperfections.
Rear fenders, tailgate, rockers, rocker boxes, and floor pans are reproduction parts, while doors, front fenders, hood, and everything in front of the doors are original GM.
The interior features new correct custom Sport Truck vinyl seat covers with matching medium blue door inserts and rear panels. The restored correct matte white textured double-wall top complements the interior. Every nut, bolt, washer, and fastener has been replaced.
The engine is a rebuilt GM 350 original, bored 30 over, with a rebuilt TH350 automatic transmission that shifts perfectly. The NP 205 transfer case has been rebuilt, along with the rear and front differentials with 3.73 gear sets from Yukon and new Spicer bearings. New chromoly axles with Spicer U-joints, hubs, spindles, and a Redhead steering gearbox complete the drivetrain upgrades. Stock-height leaf springs are installed.
All brackets, mounts, plates, springs, and removed parts were either powder coated or painted blue during restoration. The air conditioning system has been upgraded to R134 with a newer AC-style compressor. A retro Bluetooth stereo with under-dash speakers provides modern audio.
The interior is rated 10 out of 10, from the carpet to the roof of the top. It features new gauges with a center tachometer. The vehicle is equipped with 15-inch powder-coated steel wheels and new 33-inch by 10.5-inch BFG all-terrain tires. Brand new body mounts, seals, weather stripping, and window felts have been installed.
The engine was broken in properly with zinc oil before being driven. Since restoration, less than 10 miles have been driven on this K5 Blazer. Building this nut-and-bolt restoration in 2026 would cost over $175,000.
This is a stunning, fully restored first-generation K5 Blazer in a perfect GM medium blue color, better than factory new condition. It’s ready to enjoy and show, with no remaining work needed.

This vehicle has not been driven regularly for the last five years. It runs and drives but a complete safety check is recommended before long trips. There is a persistent oil leak from the front crank seal that needs replacement. The rear driver's side door latch requires adjustment and may take 2-3 attempts to close properly. The power seat is non-operational; the motor runs but the seat does not move. The windshield has a small crack or chip. Paint shows normal scratches, chips, touch-ups, and imperfections. Power windows are operational but the rubber seals are dried out and need replacement; rear windows require manual assistance to raise and lower. Turn signals are not functioning when engaged, likely due to a blown fuse.
