Description

The Citroën HY was introduced in 1947 as a commercial vehicle for a wide range of applications in light and medium-duty transport. From the outset, the model stood out for its self-supporting body with corrugated sheet metal, a design choice motivated in part by the need for strength and a relatively favorable weight-to-stiffness ratio. The Citroën HY remained in production for a very long time and became one of the brand’s best-known commercial vehicles.

Within the European van segment, the Citroën HY carved out a unique niche. The combination of front-wheel drive, simple engineering, and a practical cargo volume made the model well-suited for courier services, commercial use, and custom conversions. Due to its long production run, various versions and modifications emerged, including variants with different body styles. As a result, the HY was often seen as a functional base for customization, which further increased the model’s popularity.

This example was built in 1978, during the later years of the Citroën HY’s production run. It belongs to a phase in which the model had already been in use for decades and had proven its worth on the streets and in the business world. The HY is known as a vehicle that was used in many countries, and today it is primarily its distinctive design and construction that make it instantly recognizable.

This Citroën HY is in running condition. In April of this year, maintenance totaling over €10,000 was performed. The vehicle has been prepared to function as a food truck, aligning with the tradition of the model being used for mobile sales and other specialized applications.

The Citroën HY is known for its distinctive body style and practical interior configuration options derived from its original commercial vehicle design. The corrugated panels are a technical and visual hallmark of the model. As far as is known, Citroën never delivered this dual-axle version from the factory, making it a variant that deviates from standard production specifications. The vehicle has various imperfections, consistent with a commercial vehicle from this period with a history of use.

This 1978 Citroën HY is a rare find with a unique double-axle body. It is in running condition and has been prepared for use as a food truck. The car has various imperfections, but maintenance totaling over €10,000 was performed in April. To get a good idea of the lot, we recommend attending the viewing day.
