Description

Imagine the Alfa Romeo showroom in 1975. On one side is the new Alfetta—modern, technologically advanced, and clearly the future. On the other side stands the Giulia, still there. More familiar in design, more compact, and perhaps a bit more traditional by now. We would have chosen the Giulia. Without a doubt.

Perhaps sentiment plays a role, because we ourselves started out with Alfa Romeo in 1975. But that’s precisely why we know exactly why a Giulia like this has something special about it. It’s not just the technology. It’s not just the looks. It’s above all the way everything comes together in a relatively simple four-door sedan that’s much more fun to drive than you’d expect based on its design.

The Giulia debuted in the early 1960s and was surprisingly progressive for its time. A lightweight body, an aluminum Twin Cam engine, a five-speed manual transmission, and a chassis clearly designed with the driver in mind. Even the angular body was smarter than it looked. During development, a great deal of attention was paid to aerodynamics, allowing the Giulia to “cut through” the air with remarkable efficiency for a sedan of that era.

In 1974, the Nuova Super was introduced. The familiar basic design remained, but the car received a new black grille and a revised rear end. Some purists prefer an earlier Giulia. We understand that. But it is precisely the Nuova that now has a look that perfectly captures the spirit of the 1970s. And then there’s this particular example.

Delivered new in Italy, in Plato, and finished in Blu Olandese with brown fabric upholstery. It’s a fantastic combination—neither overly fancy nor sporty, just how a 1975 Italian family car should look. The interior exudes originality. The fabric, dashboard, controls, and subtle signs of wear tell a story far richer than a completely refurbished interior ever could. This isn’t a car where everything has been remade to look old. It simply feels authentic.

Technically, the story adds up nicely as well. The car still has its matching-numbers engine and comes with the original Libretto di servizio. The current odometer reading is around 70,000 kilometers, and based on the available history, that’s certainly plausible. But ultimately, with this Giulia, you don’t need documents to explain everything. You can see it for yourself.

The body, interior, details, and overall impression make it clear that this is a truly original example. Not an over-restored car, and not a Giulia that has lost its character along the way. Just a genuine Nuova Super 1300. Blu Olandese. Brown fabric. Matching numbers. Italian history. And to be honest, this makes us very happy. Perhaps because this is exactly the kind of Alfa that started it all for us back in 1975.
