Needless to say, the Alfa Romeo RZ is a very special car. Based on the closed version, the SZ, the RZ still differs in quite a few ways. Not only in appearance, but also in production numbers, the convertible is a lot more exclusive. Of these, only 278 units were produced and of the SZ over 1000 units. To find a perfect copy of which the story is known, from a collection, well maintained by a specialist, and also in the color, Rosso Alfa called, then this is perhaps the car to expand your hobby. In 1993 delivered to a German Alfa Romeo dealer, this RZ, with production number 99, was stored and not registered. The well-known Dutch Alfa dealer Sam van Lingen took over the car in 1996 and sold it to one of their customers. In 2008, the car was bought back and stored in Sam's collection. This time until in 2018 the current and thus second private owner added the RZ to his collection consisting of only Alfa Romeo’s. The mileage at the time was 48,700 km. The current mileage is 51,933 km.The car was meticulously maintained by (ex Alfa Romeo dealer) Valk from Rijssen. The right address for true lovers’s cars that have their origins in Italy. Naturally, all invoices are present. In addition to the normal maintenance, the tires were replaced (of course by the famous Pirelli Cinturato P7) and so was the timing belt. And then the driving… it is really enjoying the open driving, but if this is combined with being able to listen to the wonderful “Busso” 3.0 liter V-6, one of the best engines Alfa has ever made, then the party is almost complete. Because to this we must add the amazing handling. Based on the chassis of the Alfa 75, which by the way also excelled by its fantastic roadholding, the RZ has been given a big boost in the form of advanced KONI shock absorbers, which by the way are also height-adjustable. Easy with today's ubiquitous and sometimes ridiculously high speed bumps. Not that you have anything to do in a residential area with a car like this, because it feels more at home around lovely flat asphalt roads with as many curves as possible. Then this unique, almost concept car-looking convertible comes into its own.Summarizing, we can safely say that this Alfa Romeo RZ is a very real collector's car that fits into any collection, but that it is mainly a car for enthusiasts who value exclusivity and value stability, but also real drivers, and nothing more than to really enjoy their car. You are welcome to experience this in person.TECHNICAL INFORMATIONEngine: V6Fuel system: Bosch injection systemCylinder capacity: 2959 cc.Power: 210 hp. at 6200 rpm.Top speed: 230 km/hAcceleration 0-100 km/h: 7.5 secWeight: 1380 kg.Speed gearbox: 5-speed transaxleHISTORYThe Alfa Romeo RZ is the open variant of the Alfa Romeo SZ. The SZ is the production version of the “ES-30” concept car. That stands for Experimental Sportscar – 3.0 litre. SZ stands for Sprint Zagato and RZ, not entirely surprisingly, for Roadster Zagato. Although Studio Zagato's world-famous logo adorns the flank of the RZ, it is not responsible for the design. The body was drawn by Walter da Silva and Alberto Bertelli, Zagato merely added some minor details and was responsible for assembling first the SZ and later the RZ. The SZ and RZ were built on a shortened Alfa Romeo 75 platform. The body is all plastic. Although at first glance it looks like the RZ is nothing more than an SZ with a canvas roof, they are completely different cars’s. The creation of the RZ required as many as 500 different parts compared to the SZ. Both cars’s were praised at the time for their fantastic handling and the great 3.0 V6 Busso engine. The transmission could also count on compliments. Whereas the transmission in the 75 3.0 was known for its awkward downshifting, Alfa Romeo had remedied this shortcoming in the RZ, and it shifts perfectly.Alfa planned to build 350 RZ’s on top of the 1,000 SZ’s. In the end, only 278 RZ’s were built. This made it a very exclusive car.
