Description

Motodrome are pleased to offer this nicely restored example of one of our favourite 1970’s luxury cars – a Daimler Sovereign Series 1 4.2 Automatic, finished in Regency Red with full light grey leather and walnut trim

These first iterations of the XJ6, whether Jaguar or Daimler badged, have a timeless elegance that became slightly diluted with the Series 2 and 3 models. Invariably the first generation of a well-loved design is always the best, and that certainly applies here, with the low front bumper and classic multi-dial dashboard.

Odometer reading 94000 miles

This one had a long-term enthusiast owner from 1989 until his death in 2020, and was restored twice, first in 1991, and, following a period of storage 1995-2004, over a 6 year period to 2010, and it still looks vibrant today.

It underwent an engine rebuild at 84619m including reboring, new pistons and rings, big end bearings, oil pump and timing chain, and a rebuilt cylinder head. It further had a new torque converter and gearbox overhaul at the same time.

Following the long-terms owner’s death, the Sovereign was put into storage for 3 yeas awaiting probate, before being acquired and recommissioned by the last owner. Additional work in his tenure includes the fitting of Lumenition ignition, two new fuel senders (both tanks work), new viscous fan, and a rebuilt AED system.

It comes with a very large history file back to the late 1980’s, including a lovely handwritten diary from its 1989-2000 ownership, which the last owner has added to.

It looks really nice, and it drives beautifully too.
