Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Sunday the 9th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT.
Introduced in 1968, the Jaguar XJ and its Daimler counterparts marked the final saloons influenced directly by Sir William Lyons, with the Double-Six Vanden Plas debuting in 1972 as a long-wheelbase luxury flagship
Once presented in Garnet Metallic with chamois interior trim, the car was first registered under GON 51L on 01/02/1973
Powered by the factory-fitted 5.3-litre V12 engine with automatic transmission, a configuration that established the Double-Six as Daimler’s most refined model
This example is chassis number one, reputedly the sister car to that gifted to HM The Queen Mother, with heritage documentation confirming matching numbers
Re-registered later as VXE 960L, the car entered its current ownership around six years ago and has since been stripped for a restoration that remains unfinished
Supplied with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate, its original registration number, and accompanying history, this significant Daimler represents a rare opportunity to acquire chassis number one of the Series 1 Double-Six Vanden Plas

The Winchester Collection
A number of Jaguars and Daimlers with interesting provenance, including 2 Chassis #1 Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas Saloons,  Series 1 and Series 2, two experimental cars, including an XJ Series 1 and potentially the earliest surviving XJ-S as well as a pair of Donor Cars all offered without reserve. Inspection of these cars is invited, they have formed part of a stalled collection, and as such are offered as is, in need of full restoration but in many cases will prove difficult to resist given their interesting histories.
