Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at CarFest 2026 on Saturday the 29th of August and Sunday the 30th of August at The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN.

First registered in 1987 and finished in rare HET Moorlands Green with AEE Doeskin leather, this range-topping Daimler 3.6 is offered with just 41,111 documented miles indicated at the time of cataloguing. The mileage is supported by its original stamped service book, old MOT certificates, extensive invoices, and a JDHT Heritage Certificate.

The car is supplied with a comprehensive history file, including its original book pack, early XJ40 brochure and price list, a photographic record of previous restoration work, two keys, original dealer number plates from Lex Mead of Maidenhead, the original Jaguar toolkit, and spare wheel.

Benefiting from substantial recent recommissioning following a period in storage, works include a full service, replacement transmission and differential oils, brake fluid change, new front brake calipers, rear discs and pads, front coil springs, rear subframe bushes, front shock bushes, fuel pressure regulator, Exide battery, and extensive underside cleaning and Waxoyl treatment.

Highly specified as expected of an early Daimler, features include the distinctive digital instrument display, electric seats, electric sunroof, cruise control, self-levelling rear suspension, rear picnic tables, central locking, original Jaguar radio cassette with electric aerial, and lambswool over-rugs. The vendor reports that all major electrical systems, including the digital dashboard, are functioning correctly.

The vehicle is accompanied by an MOT valid until 17th June 2027 with no advisories. This notably original example retains its factory stainless steel exhaust system and presents in impressive overall condition, although the headlining would benefit from replacement. There are some minor cosmetic imperfections consistent with age.

This is a particularly appealing early XJ40, combining a rare specification, exceptional provenance, and low mileage with the increasingly sought-after character of Jaguar's first all-new luxury saloon of the modern era.
