The story of the Datsun 240Z begins in 1969 under a different brand name: Nissan. That brand launched the Fairlady Z, a compact and relatively affordable sports sedan. A year later, the brand introduced the car in America as the Datsun 240Z, at practically the same price as the MGB GT. The 240Z—later renamed the 260Z and 280Z due to different engines—became a Japanese icon. And we now have one such icon on display in our showroom. This bright green 240Z that you see here practically jumps off the screen. So it won’t surprise you when we say that this Japanese sports car has been completely restored. The restoration alone took about 1,800 hours of work, based on the recorded hours, and that is evident in the condition of the coupe. As if the green paint weren’t eye-catching enough, it’s fitted with a set of popular 15-inch Rota wheels. The paint is in fantastic condition and has been treated with a Meguiars paint sealant. How’s the panel fit? With a Japanese car, we don’t even need to emphasize it: it’s spot on! The Datsun’s interior was, of course, included in the restoration, so everything inside the Datsun looks absolutely stunning. The black faux-leather seats have, of course, been reupholstered. The same goes for the carpets and door panels. Special attention was paid to the dashboard, which, like the center console, features a special “flocking” technique—a treatment commonly used in auto and rally racing to prevent annoying glare. All gauges and controls function as they should. Under the hood is a beautifully restored and rebuilt 2.4-liter inline six-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft. This engine is not only in perfect technical condition but is also a real pleasure to look at. Not only has the car recently undergone maintenance, but the valves, pistons, gaskets, and much more have also been replaced. While the hood of such a reliable Japanese car won’t need to be opened very often, it’s reassuring to know that the engine block looks so fresh. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission that shifts smoothly and precisely. A truly exceptional classic that is gaining increasing appreciation. That fact, combined with its cosmetic and mechanical condition, makes this 240Z a fantastic classic sports car for its next owner.
