1935 Alvis Silver Eagle 2 door coupé.
Chassis number: 1702
Registration number: NFO629
An unusual Alvis Silver Eagle 2 door coupe with coachwork by cross & Ellis. Two were built to this design & we suspect this to be the only survivor. Much money has been spent on the car to bring it to the condition we find it in today, whilst pleasingly the original maroon leather interior has been preserved & is in fine patinated order.
The car is finished in a very period two tone grey colour scheme that suits the car very well; the paint being of recent origin & in fine order. The roof covering is of rexine fabric & again is in excellent shape.
This is a car which was in one family ownership from registration in 1935 until 1960 when it passed to an owner in Lincolnshire who took it off the road in 1962. In 2012 it emerged & since then has had the works done. Mr William Beattie in Lochgilphead acquired the car (the V5 shows his ownership as 01/07/2014 but I think he acquired it earlier than that). He undertook a panel, paint, plating, roof, sunroof and interior restoration and also rebuilt the radiator, water pump, cylinder head, exhaust system and road wheels.
The current owner had the car rewired and the dynamo and control box rebuilt. A full engine rebuild has been undertaken including new pistons, main bearings etc etc. The interior woodwork has been restored and the brakes stripped and reassembled and carried out a full lubrication service. Thus it is now complete and running nicely - albeit in need of some miles to shake it down and run it in; something we are attending to.
The 2.4 Litre six cylinder engine starts readily & pulls strongly providing surprising performance from its 70 or so BHP. It is equipped with triple carbs & makes a very sporting alternative to a derby Bentley or more staid Rolls Royce. The gear box, an Alvis strong point is a pleasure to use benefiting from superb synchro-mesh making it a pleasure to drive. A traditional Alvis Eagle adorns the bonnet, wings outstretched. The car has 4 new tyres fitted & sits on rebuilt wire wheels.

Classic and Vintage Car Servicing Vintage and Prestige Fine Motor Cars operate a large workshop that provides a range of services for their automotive client’s cars in addition to undertaking more specialised work when required. We recently stripped and fitted new valves to a 4.5 litre 1925 Sunbeam for example & relined a crank damper on a Rolls Royce 25/30. Classic and Vintage Car Restoration We typically have about eight full classic car restoration projects being undertaken at any one time. For example, we are currently working on a ‘nut and bolt’ restoration of three Rolls Royce Phantom III’s, two V12 Lagonda’s, a Jaguar XK120 and are painting several other classic vehicles. Our trim shop is next door to our showroom & does a fine job of re-upholstering car interiors.
