Description

Books have been written about John DeLorean. So let's leave aside the colorful founder of the eponymous car brand. What remains is a unique car, a brilliant concept and a car that was made world famous by the films of Back to the Future. Whether the DMC DeLorean would have been as famous without the movies and would still be so loved today, we will never know. This example is from 1981 and features some cool details that later copies no longer had. For example, the car has the hood of the old type, 1981 was the first year that the gray leather was available and also the first year that the DMC was equipped with the new rims as on this example. The car looks beautiful. The bodywork was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and is a beautiful piece of design. The way the car was built is an equally great masterpiece the base forms a Y-shaped chassis that was inspired by the Lotus Esprit. Around this is a fibreglass underbody on which the stainless steel body was mounted. A wonderful way to build a car. Most likely, the exterior alone is responsible for the fact that rumors have surfaced so many times that someone wanted to make a go of the illustrious brand. The brushed aluminum exterior gives the DeLorean a beautiful and futuristic look and still looks like it should be put through its paces. The car was partially restored by the previous owner and is still in very good condition. The exterior is completely original. The wheels have been repainted once and things like the window frames and door rubbers have all been replaced once already. Fortunately, the exterior still looks exactly as the DeLorean left the factory. The interior has already been completely reupholstered once. The headliner has been redone, all of the interior buttons have been redone, the motors for the power windows have been redone, the dashboard and glove box have been redone, the steering has been redone, the door panels have been redone, the seats have been redone, and the doors have been redone. Not surprisingly, the interior of the DeLorean looks completely original and is in wonderful condition. The upholstery for the seats were purchased from a specialist who had purchased the original seat covers from DeLorean's bankruptcy and kept them dark and dry. Needless to say, the carpets are also in great condition and the instruments and controls all function exactly as they should. The technology has been beautifully cared for. The technique has recently been completely taken care of. The engine and transmission itself have not been overhauled, that was not necessary due to the low mileage, but what has been taken care of down to the last detail are all the peripheral issues. The fuel lines were replaced, the expansion tank, all the cooling hoses, the gaskets of the exhaust, the power steering, the air conditioning, the distribution, the ignition, all vacuum hoses, the engine mounts, all belts, the fuel pump, tank float, all relays and the entire thermostat. So we can say that very thorough work has been done to ensure that the technique of the DeLorean is ready for many miles of driving pleasure. The engine and transmission are also very solid. The DMC DeLorean is powered by a 2.7 liter V6 engine that DeLorean was licensed to build by Renault. The engine delivers 132 hp and in this case is coupled to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine and transmission are more than up to the task and make the DeLorean a wonderfully relaxed touring car. The car is further equipped with independent suspension all round and excellent brakes and thus drives fantastic. The work on this DeLorean is all beautifully documented through invoices and descriptions and there is also a workshop manual with the car. In short, a beautiful DeLorean in a superb condition with mountains of preventive maintenance.
