In the 1970's the Mopar's were a terror to the other pony cars on the streets. Although the Challenger was a late response to the Ford Mustang (1964), Dodge in the fall of 69 had a plan to release the most potent pony car ever. Positioned to compete against the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird in the upper end of the pony car market segment. The Dodge Challenger was available in a staggering number of trim and option levels, and with virtually every engine in Chrysler's inventory.
Fast forward to the Challenger's 3rd generation and its just like the 70's came back with more! Still the with the classics body style that mirrored the 1st gen models, in 2011 dodge added some wow features to its SRT8. A new 6.4-liter Hemi V8 was added, which rated the 392 at 470 hp; Dodge engineers stated they sacrificed peak horsepower ratings for low-end torque, stating a 90 lbft. This quarter mile killer clocked in with a time of 12.4 seconds at 110 mph and a 0-60 in 4.5 seconds.
