Gateway Classic Cars of Detroit is proud to present this 1986 Dodge Omni GLH-S. though many know Carroll Shelby worked much of his career with Ford, there was a time in the 80's that he was heavily improving the performance of the Dodge stable. The Omni was an economy-minded car designed to help get from point A to point B as efficient as possible. A special trim GLH (for "goes Like Hell") was introduced in 1984 with help from Mr. Shelby. The trim level added turbo, making for a hot hatch that spit out a respectable 146 horsepower, up from the standard 94 of the lesser models. the GLH-S, as shown here, was a Swan Song of the high-performance trims for the Omni, and saw more boost, and therefore a higher power output of 175 horsepower. With the Omni only weighing about 2,200 lbs, this Dodge can move!
The 2.2l 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This example is very original, and is numbered #261/500 in the limited lineup. The boost pressure was upped again to 16-17psi, and the 5-speed was upgraded with a stronger unit, as well as a limited slip differential, making sure traction can always be found. Koni shocks sit on all 4 corners and gives a very pleasant ride, while still making sure this Omni really hugs the road. This rare vehicle is sure to keep you smiling for years to come!
