Description

Dodge T 214 WC 57 Year 1943

The T-Vehicles Proved To Be Somewhat Too Light For The Missions That Were To Be Carried Out In The Military,[5] So Dodge Developed, In Late 1941, A New Class Of Vehicle, Not Yet In Existence At The Time, Namely The T-Vehicles, Practically Based On The Same Well-Proven Architecture Already Used For The Smaller Class Vehicles, But Increasing The Power And Overall Dimensions. In Competition With Dodge, Ford Proposed Its Own Vehicle, Which, However, Was Not Accepted. These Vehicles Were Referred To By Chrysler As "jeep Big Brother"[6] And Were Sometimes Referred To Colloquially By The Military As "beep" (Big Jeep). The Vehicles Were Equipped With Dodge L Engines Of 3772 Cm3 And 92 Hp, Wheelbase 249 Cm (Model Code Wc51, Wc52, Wc55 And Wc56, Wc57, Wc58) Or 290 Cm (Model Code Wc53) Or 307 Cm (Model Code Wc54, Wc59, Wc 60), A Total Of 150819 Were Built, During 1942-45, Making It One Of The Most Popular Vehicles In The U.s. Army, Second Only To The Jeep And The Cckw 6X6. Top Speed Was About 108 Mph. In Addition To The Standard Models, Two Prototype Vehicles For Directing Ground Operations Were Produced, One With Seating For Eight Passengers And One With Seating For Two Passengers And Space For The Installation Of A Long-Range Radio Apparatus.in Both Prototypes The Electrical System Was 12 V, Instead Of 6 V As Was The Standard For U.s. Vehicles, And They Were Arranged To Be Indistinguishable From Normal Vehicles At Air Reconnaissance.(Source Wikipedia)
