Description

The Alfa Romeo 2000 Touring Spider, introduced in 1958, is a classic Italian roadster known for its elegant lines and advanced engineering for the time. The body was designed by Carrozzeria Touring and built using their Superleggera technique, which involved mounting lightweight aluminum panels over a framework of thin steel tubes. This kept the car light while allowing for the flowing, sculpted shape that defines its look. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter twin-cam inline-four and features a five-speed manual transmission, making it both quick and smooth to drive.Exterior: The exterior of this 1959 Alfa Romeo 2000 Touring Spider is finished in a beautiful tone of red. Personally, I’m not usually a big fan of red cars, but I have to admit that this slightly darker shade suits the Alfa exceptionally well. The striking body was designed by Touring, and the design is truly breathtaking. I believe there are very few other cars that offer as much late '50s to early '60s Italian styling for the money. In terms of looks, this car holds its own against Maserati 3500 Vignale Spiders, Lancia Aurelia B24 Spiders, and Ferrari 250 GT and 275 GTS Spiders, at a fraction of the cost. The condition of this Touring Spider is best described as a user-friendly daily driver. The car presents well, but upon close inspection, you will find imperfections. It has sharp body lines and pretty good panel gaps. Most of the chrome is in nice condition, with a few exceptions, such as the window frame, which shows some pitting. The car rides on its original steel wheels wrapped in classic Michelin tires.Interior: The Alfa 2000 Touring Spider’s interior harmonizes well with the exterior. It consists of original black leather with a nice patina. Again, the interior is not perfect, but nothing is in disturbingly poor condition. From the driver’s seat, you’re greeted by the gorgeous Veglia instrument cluster and the beautiful classic Alfa steering wheel. Everything inside the car functions as it should, apart from the stereo, which is more for show. A new black soft top has been fitted, and it fits perfectly with a nice, even stretch.Engine and Mechanics: As you might guess from the name, the Alfa Romeo 2000 Touring Spider features a 2-liter engine. It’s a twin-cam inline-four that delivers around 115 horsepower. This car is equipped with twin Weber carburetors and an open air filter, which produces a great induction sound. Alfa was ahead of its time in fitting five-speed gearboxes, and this car is no exception. The gearbox offers tight, precise shifts, and the steering feels direct and connected. This isn’t a rocket ship, but it still delivers a very special and enjoyable driving experience. Recent work includes service, new dampers, various suspension components, brake shoes, brake cylinders, a restored fuel tank, and some electrical fixes.History and Documentation: This Alfa 2000 Touring Spider was delivered on April 23, 1959, to Billancourt, France. Today, the car comes with a few invoices documenting recent mechanical work, as well as the installation of the new soft top. It is also accompanied by an Alfa Romeo Classic certificate, which confirms that the car retains its original, matching-numbers engine.
