Description

1962 was the year the Beatles became hugely famous, in part due to the single ‘Love Me Do’, but it was also a great year for Alfa Romeo. For example, the Italian brand unveiled the 2600 at the 1962 Genève Motor Show. Not only did the Beatles createëer their ‘reputation’ but Alfa Romeo also took an important step to further enhance Alfa's reputation as a producer of eye-catching sports cars’ve with the 2600. Featuring a six-cylinder inline engine equipped with dual overhead camshafts, an aspect that incidentally dates all the way back to the 1920s, the 2600 succeeded the earlier 2000. The 2600 came in a wide variety of variants; from the popular Berlina, Spider and Sprint variants and later other versions followed, including the 2600 Sprint Zagato and De Luxe. Although large numbers were never produced, the 2600 offered a perfect blend of Italian design and a lively engine with good performance. This combination proved popular with a diverse audience. The Sprint was especially popular, despite its relatively modest production numbers of 6,999. The 2600 Sprint, with bodywork by Bertone, offered seating for four adults. Alfa Romeo bet on stable handling and a high degree of comfort. Although this model was slightly heavier compared to the very light Alfa Romeo’s of the time, this car was still capable of sporting performance. With a 145 hp engine, the Sprint could reach a top speed of 200 km/h.The example we offer here is a 1965 2600 sprint. An interesting detail about this Alfa is that it is ‘matching colors’ confirmed by Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo. Very nice, but besides that, we just love the color scheme. Also, this flagship Alfa Romeo has a completely overhauled engine. This overhaul work has been extensively documented and we have attached some pictures’s of this for you. This car can be summarized as a real ‘driver's car’ where you can get in and enjoy. The exterior of this 2600 looks neat with the beautiful white color. Despite the fact that this example has the normal signs of use, the whole thing fits well. The bumpers, hubcaps and mirrors are examples of this. In the interior we find blue leather upholstery. The whole fits nicely with the condition of the exterior. We find authentic details including the original clocks. Because of the revision work, this Alfa 2600 actually drives like the flagship of Alfa at the time. A wonderful car with plenty of power and a beautiful sound. The handling of this 2600 is fine and we are sure that the new owner will enjoy this Alfa. Are you interested in this Alfa Romeo? Then contact us now using the contact form.
