Alfa Romeo 1600 Giulia Spider Veloce 1965
This sought-after and powerful Veloce model (only 1,092 produced) is in very original condition with an Alfa Romeo Classiche certificate. Over €20,000 has been invested in maintenance in recent years. It features Weber carburetors and disc brakes. An appraisal report is available, with a valuation of €90,000.
HISTORY AND DOCUMENTATION
The vintage Italian style is beautifully evident in every refined detail of the 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce. Appreciating its beauty is easy, but finding a genuine Giulia Spider Veloce from that model year to add to a collection is much more difficult. These elegant cars are already rare—only 1,091 were produced—and finding a well-preserved example is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
This particular car was delivered new on April 8, 1965, in Las Vegas, United States. It later moved to Sweden and was eventually imported to the Netherlands by its last owner in 2019. The car currently has a Dutch license plate. In 2026, Alfa Romeo Classiche issued a “Certificato Di Origine,” verifying the authenticity and originality of this example. Using the chassis number, a detailed examination of relevant documents in the historical archives confirms the car’s year of manufacture, original specifications, engine serial number, and equipment. These certificates are issued exclusively by Alfa Romeo Classiche.
EXTERIOR
This Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce is in the iconic 'Alfa Rosso' color. The car is virtually entirely original: body panels, chrome trim, and window seals remain as they left the Pininfarina factory. There is no visible welding, and the condition is honest—ideal for enjoying on the road. Thanks to storage in a heated garage, the car has remained rust-free.
The convertible top has been replaced with a high-quality mohair version and is in good condition. The 15-inch wheels are fitted with decorative hubcaps, and the four Michelin tires still have sufficient tread.
INTERIOR
The interior is finished in black vinyl and is in remarkably good condition. The seats, carpet, and dashboard are all well-maintained and undamaged. No aftermarket radio has been installed. The trunk is well-kept and houses the battery and fuel tank. An extra switch has been added for the windshield washer, replacing the original foot pump system.
The faux leather interior contrasts nicely with the red upholstery and dashboard, and is free of damage throughout. The steering wheel has a 3-spoke design. Equipment includes Veglia instruments (speedometer, tachometer, and combined oil, temperature, and fuel gauge). Lap belts have been installed for safety. The center console features the distinctive gold-colored Alfa Romeo logo.
TECHNICAL
The Giulia Spider Veloce is powered by a 1600 cc inline four-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts and dual Weber carburetors. It has front disc brakes and a five-speed manual transmission. The battery is located in the trunk.
Since 2019, the car has undergone a thorough technical overhaul, with over €20,000 invested. Work included replacing window mechanisms, door handles, brakes, and overhauling the transmission and driveshaft. The engine and suspension have also been serviced. In 2021, four Koni dampers and four new spark plugs were installed.
Thanks to its light weight of just over 900 kg and rear-wheel drive, it is a delightful driver’s car.
