Description

This 1970 Alfa Romeo Doesn’t Belong in a Museum
Too many classics end up hidden away, collecting dust.

This one was built to be driven. Recently rebuilt, with only 1,500 km on its refreshed engine, it’s ready to hit the road.

Museum piece? No.
Weekend joy machine? Absolutely.

1970 ALFA ROMEO GT 1300 JUNIOR 'SCALINO' - LHD
This Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior ‘Scalino’ is an exemplar of 1970s Italian style and flair, presented in very good order following a sympathetic cosmetic refurbishment and thorough mechanical restoration. It is powered by the characterful 1.3-litre Alfa Romeo twin-cam engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 95,800 kilometres from new.
First registered in August 1970, this GT 1300 Junior is reported to have had just one owner before the current vendor, who kept the car for 49 years, before it changed hands last year. This desirable ‘Scalino’ or ‘Step-nose’ car has remained in Italy throughout its entire life to date.
Its exterior is reported to be in very good condition, finished in the Biancospino hue, a classic white used by Alfa Romeo through the 1960s and 1970s. Having undergone sympathetic restoration, the paint has been polished and with minor refurbishment, but remains largely original across the panels.
The interior is said to be in superb order. The black upholstery remains in a very good condition; however, the seller notes a small tear on the rear seats which is pictured – though the seller is happy to repair this with original material if the next owner wishes. There are no faults with the instrumentation, and all of the switchgear works as it should. This GT Junior also comes with Alfa Romeo rubber floor mats.
While the exterior and interior restoration is reported to have been done with the objective to ‘preserve’, mechanically the car has been significantly rebuilt and overhauled. The work was extensive and included four new pistons, new main bearings, and new rod bearings. Its intake and exhaust valves were replaced, along with the valve guides, rubbers, and the drive belts.
They fitted a new distributor cap and water pump, overhauled the brakes, and calibrated and balanced the carburetors, including new jets. New intake manifolds have been installed, along with new engine and gearbox mounts. Following its mechanical restoration, the car has covered only 1,500 kilometres.
The Italian equivalent to the MOT, the Revisione, was done in Italy on 14 October 2019, which resulted in a pass with no warnings or advisories. The owner advises that the tyres are around 50% worn. The most recent service was in February 2020 at 91,422 kilometres when the oil and fuel filters were changed, and the oil replaced.
With two period Alfa Romeo keys, original vehicle registration documents, and an ASI certificate of historical interest, this vehicle could appeal to a buyer in its home market of Italy, but is also ready for export elsewhere in Europe or further afield.
The Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior presents in highly original condition, and is a beautiful slice of 1970s Italian charm. The current vendor has sensitively revived this car by honouring the aesthetics and shoring up the mechanical components, meaning this Alfa now looks very smart, and starts and drives on-the-button.
