Description

Alfa Romeo Montreal for saleThe Alfa Romeo Montreal is a striking Italian grand tourer produced between 1970 and 1977. Originally unveiled as a concept car at Expo 67 in Montreal, the model gained so much attention that Alfa Romeo decided to bring it into production. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, the Montreal features a distinctive front end with partially covered headlights, a sculpted body, and unique side slats. Beneath its elegant exterior lies a 2.6-liter DOHC V8 engine derived from Alfa Romeo’s racing program, producing 200 horsepower and paired with a 5-speed ZF manual gearbox.Exterior: Exterior-wise, the 1976 Alfa Montreal we have on offer here is exceptional. The car is painted in Rosso Alfa, and the paintwork holds a very high standard. It looks as if the paintwork was completed recently, even though it was finished nine years ago. The car has received extensive bodywork, all conducted at a high level. This is evident in the excellent panel fitting and gaps around the car. All of the car's exterior chrome and stainless trim pieces are also in great condition. The car sits on its original Campagnolo wheels with nice, period-correct Vredestein tires. Aesthetically, I have always felt that the Montreal offers a lot of beautiful Italian styling at its price point. The Bertone body, especially the front end, is one of the best-looking designs to come out of the 1970s.Interior: Inside the Alfa Romeo Montreal, a lot of work has also been done. The entire interior has been re-trimmed in black leather, which has now developed a bit of use and started to look slightly worn-in which is something I personally like in a classic Italian sports car. All small trim pieces inside the car are also in nice condition, including the buttons in the center console and the signal stalk. The headliner has been nicely reupholstered, and overall, the interior feels very well put together. The car is very comfortable to sit in, with soft seats that truly make it a grand tourer. The seating position in the Montreal, looking over the Jaeger instrument cluster and the long hood, really is a special experience.Engine and Mechanics: Driving the Alfa Montreal is a pleasant experience. However, the car is more of a cruiser/grand tourer than a sports car. The 2.6-liter V8 is smooth and provides respectable power at 200 hp. The gearbox is a precise 5-speed dogleg, the brakes feel good, and the suspension is on the softer side. Mechanically, lots of work has been done to this car, but it has also been used after its restoration. This means the break-in period is complete, and all small adjustments and issues have been dealt with. The engine has been rebuilt with new pistons, cylinder sleeves, timing components, bearings, water pump, etc. The Spica injection system has been rebuilt, the rear box and differential serviced, and all suspension and ball joints have been replaced. Essentially, everything has been done.History and Documentation: This car was imported to Denmark from Germany. The previous owner had it for about eight years but used the car very little. When the current owner bought the car in 2013, it became clear that it needed a restoration – so began its journey. The restoration has been extensively documented through pictures, parts bills, and invoices. The process took around four years and was completed in 2017, with over 100,000 euros spent on the car. The owner used the car for a few rallies and Alfa meets, but now the time has come to part ways with his Montreal. If you live in Sweden and would like to sell your classic Alfa Romeo, please let us know here. Models like Giulia SS, Touring Spider in excellent condition are of interest.
