It is 1966 when something special is about to happen at the Genève Motor Show. A new model that no one has seen yet. Totally unlike today, no images have yet been leaked over the Internet and no computer impressions have yet been sent around. No, in 1966 the excitement can be felt on the exhibition floor when a new car is presented to the general public. The curtain comes down on the Alfa Romeo Spider, later known as the Duetto, and immediately the model makes a big impression. Today it is ééone of the most famous classics. For almost 30 years the model was at Alfa Romeo dealers, in four different series. What you see here is a particularly nice Spider 'Duetto' 1750 Iniezione from 1969, in the most popular color: Rosso Alfa. The Spider is in the past with a new layer of paint, given the fact that the car originally comes from America there is a suspicion that the repainting of the car has mainly had to do with the dullness of the paint. The bodywork looks nice and original. The paint has minimal signs of use in a few places but they are not noticeable until you investigate. The doors close very easily, indicating a nice stiff chassis. Areas that often indicate weakness, such as the rear edge of the trunk and interfaces where the front fenders are welded to the chassis under the hood are all in very healthy and very clean condition. Also, the rear of the Spider still runs very nicely horizontally, where many early Spider have a somewhat "drooping rear end" due to rust or not properly repaired damage, and of course we do not want that, even at the age of 54.Looking at the interior, we are again pleasantly surprised. A beautiful dashboard, largely in paint color. Nice Veglia gauges that are of course fully functional and neat carpets adorn the Spider. The upholstery of the two comfortably seated seats, which have already been renewed once, also looks very neat. Damage is foreign to the seats.Certainly not original is the convertible top. That is clearly recently renewed. Only nice, here you already have no worries. On the interior we can continue where we left off with the exterior: originality takes the crown, except for the beautiful sports steering wheel and matching gear knob. A beautiful body-colored steel dashboard, as is typical of early Spiders. Where on many of its peers a hole was cut in the dashboard to mount a radio, this one is still completely pristine. The floor covering still looks original, the seats have been reupholstered once in the past, with the small damage on the seating surface of the driver's seat actually being the only downside to the entire interior. The seats are very comfortable and offer sufficient support, as is typical for actually all seats in Alfa's from the 105 series, to which the Duetto also belongs. So we have discussed the convertible top, not yet the hood. Or rather, what's under it. In this case, a 1750 engine with injection. Hence the letters "Iniezione" on the back. Combined with a so-called howler pipe, an almost standard recipe for a 105 series, this Spider delivers an unprecedented amount of fun. Few cars offer as much driving pleasure as an Alfa Romeo 105 series, and the Spider adds a good portion of wind through the hair (if any).
