Description

"It looks like it was designed with an axe... and I love it."— Jeremy Clarkson

This is the Alfa Romeo SZ – a brutal fusion of design, performance, and history. Also known as Il Mostro, this car symbolizes Alfa Romeo’s uncompromising vision at the end of the 1980s. Think cassette tapes, fluorescent windbreakers, and the glory days of analog passion.

What makes this car unique? Everything. The SZ's design is unlike anything you'd expect on a production car. Its sharp lines and angular shapes resemble more of a prototype than something you'd register for the road. And yet, this futuristic machine was built in Italy, with a body made of advanced thermoplastic composites – revolutionary for its time – mounted on the chassis of the Alfa 75 Group A racer.

Under the bonnet beats the heart of the legendary 3.0-liter Busso V6 engine. The sound? A mechanical aria that sends shivers down any car enthusiast’s spine. Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, every drive feels like a hot lap at Monza.

This particular Alfa Romeo SZ, production number 771, was originally delivered new in Japan. In 2012, the car found its way to the United Kingdom, where it was acquired by a Dutch enthusiast. When he later moved back to the Netherlands, the SZ naturally came with him. Since 2023, the car has been officially registered on Dutch plates.

Since its time in the UK, the SZ has been in the hands of a devoted Alfa Romeo specialist. Over the years, it has been well maintained and remains in excellent mechanical condition. Yes, it bears a few charming Italian wrinkles here and there, but those are part of its character.

As the icing on the cake, this SZ comes with a birth certificate confirming its provenance and authenticity in black and white.

Are you as obsessed with Alfa Romeo as we are? We'd love to connect with fellow Alfisti!
