Description

Aston Martin V8 1974 for sale

The Aston Martin V8 1974 for sale here is today one of those British icon cars. In 1969, the Aston Martin DBS replaced the beautiful DB6 model. At first, the DBS continued with the straight-six engine from the earlier DB6, but very soon the Tadek Marek V8 was ready. And, from 1973 the cars were referred to as Aston Martin V8. The Aston Martin V8 design was very much the same with a few tweaks over the years until the Virage was presented in 1989.

Exterior: The Aston Martin V8 we have for sale here is a bit of a “barn find”. Very little has been done to this car over the years, and still the car is in surprisingly good shape for an Aston Martin. Everything on the outside except for the paint is 100% original. It is still the original chrome, glass and we think even the tyres are likely to be the very first set. They are of course long due for replacement. This goes to show how little this car was used over its 49-year-long life. The body has no signs of corrosion on the outside of the car and the blue colour suits the model of this car very well. The name of the colour is Imperial blue. In the original prospect for the car I can read is that the body is made of aluminium alloy over rigid steel superstructure integral with safety platform chassis. Body and chassis unit completely rust proofed, sound insulated and undersealed. I think anybody that had considered to buy an Aston Martin DBS V8 has been warned about the rust issues that these cars had. However, this car looks as solid unwelded underneath as on top.

Interior: The interior of the 1974 Aston Martin V8 is all original and this is a car equipped with air condition from factory. The leather in natural colour is still nice and soft. Even the carpets are original and the floor underneath the carpets is very solid. Original Aston Martin seatbelts also for the passengers in the back.

Engine: Aston Martin was not so happy with the Bosch fuel injection and decided to go back to using no less than four Weber carburettors. With this setup, the car produced 310hp and could do zero to 60 in 6,1 seconds with automatic gearbox. It was pretty staggering performance in 1974 and due to emission regulations, the cars that came later had less power. I know a lot of people think that this car should have had a manual gearbox, but I have driven these cars with manual gearboxes, and I would take the automatic over a manual any day. These cars are much more of a luxury cruiser in a Grand Touring format than a sports car.

History: The Aston Martin V8 for sale here was sold new to Eastern Motors Limited in Japan. It spent its life there and came back to Europe in 2022. All import duties and taxes for EU are paid. This vintage Aston Martin comes with a British motor industry heritage certificate. It is a matching numbers and matching colours car. Please note that the car has been standing still for many years and it will require full service, work and some investments before it can be back on the road. It can be started and driven short stretches today.
