This 1991 Audi 80 Sport 16v is an appealing modern classic, presented in a handsome colour scheme and with relatively low mileage from new. It is powered by a 2.0-litre 16-valve inline-four, which produces around 135bhp and drives the front wheels via the five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 79,109 miles from new
A late example of the B3-generation Audi 80, this original right-hand drive Sport edition was first registered in January 1991, and can be distinguished from the standard 80 by its Audi Sport rear spoiler, colour-coded door mirrors and Speedline alloy wheels.
The last private owner had enjoyed the car for the last 10 years and invested in its maintenance and upkeep to ensure it remains in impressive condition.
Today, the J. Mays-designed bodywork presents very well, and is free of any noticeable dents or panel damage. Thanks in part to the fact that the B3 Audi 80âs bodyshell was galvanised from the factory, the car is also free of any visible corrosion. The metallic green paintwork is in excellent condition, having been fully resprayed by Washington Coachworks in January 2012.
The carâs badges and trim are also in great shape, and the light lenses are free of any chips, cracks or hazing. This Audi 80 Sport sits on the correct set of 15-inch Speedline alloy wheels, which look superb and have no signs of damage or blemishes on their polished rims or silver painted faces.
In the cabin, striped fabric covers the seat centres, and also appears on the door cards. All of the upholstery is in fantastic condition for its age, and the seatsâ smooth bolsters benefit from having been refurbished in November 2012, when the foam in all four door cards was also renewed.
Both the charming three-spoke steering wheel and five-speed manual gear knob are wrapped in black leather and wear their age well, as does the interiorâs black plastic trim, which remains largely unmarked.
The light grey headlining is also in very good order, and is free of any noticeable marks, stains or sagging â and is punctuated by a manually-operated steel sunroof. In-car entertainment is provided courtesy of a modern Blaupunkt Toronto stereo with USB connectivity, and the seller notes that an aftermarket alarm system has also been fitted. All of the carâs switchgear and electrical items are reported to work without fault, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.
This retro German saloonâs most recent routine maintenance was carried out at 78,804 miles by Halltech. This included replacement of the centre, intermediate and rear sections of the exhaust and the catalytic converter; as well as replacement of the front drop links and rear brake hoses. A loose battery terminal was also attended to, and the wiper motor was replaced.
Its last MOT test was conducted on 18 January 2021 at 79,108 miles. This resulted in a first-time pass, with one advisory noting a minor leak from the front section of the exhaust; however, this has now been rectified.
All four of the carâs alloy wheels are shod in Continental PemiumContact 2 tyres, which have covered just 500 miles since they were fitted. This Audi 80 Sport 16v will be accompanied by its correct handbook and service history documents.
Building on the marqueâs reputation for producing handsome and reliable premium saloon with great design, the B3 Audi 80 has deservedly become a true modern classic. Powered by the 2.0-litre 16-valve engine, this smart, low-mileage example has been exceptionally well-cared for by its previous owner, and is presented in excellent condition thanks to a recent full respray, making it a particularly appealing prospect for any collector of retro Audis.
