Description

The 100-6 differed from the 100 in that it had a 50.8 mm longer wheelbase, a more powerful inline six-cylinder engine instead of the larger inline four, and the addition of two jump seats in the rear (later made optional). In addition to a simplified design, the car received a new, smaller and wider grille, placed lower, an air scoop was placed on the hood, and the windshield became fixed.

The Austin-Healey 100-6 with the new cylinder head was the subject of a major advertising campaign in early 1958 to showcase the new performance of the six-cylinder engine. While the bodywork remained the same, the 6-cylinder engine received a new cylinder head with 2 SU carburetors and Girling disc brakes in the front. Available options were: spoked wheels, overdrive gearbox, removable hard-top and two-tone paint.

The 100-6 was produced in two models, the 2+2 seat BN4 from 1956 and the 2 seat BN6 from 1958 to 1959.

It was powered by a specially adapted version of the BMC C-Series block from the Austin Westminster, originally delivering 102 hp (76 kW). This was increased to 117 hp (87 kW) in 1957 with a new intake manifold and cylinder head. The overdrive fitted as standard was made optional.

The assembly line was moved in late 1957 from Lonbridge to the new MG plant in Abingdon. A total of 14,436 100-6s were produced.

In a test of a 117 hp BN6 in 1959, the British magazine The Motor reported the following technical data: top speed of 167.2 km/h; acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 s; fuel consumption of 13.6 L/100 km. The list price of the vehicle (including taxes) was 1,307 pounds sterling.

Description.

Here we present you with a very high quality example, because not only is it in concours condition, but more importantly it is super equipped. You have here a real model 100-6 BN6 from 1959. A new paint job has just been applied with a sumptuous two-tone that matched very well with the cognac-colored interior of the car and the new dark blue mohair top. A lot of work has been done.

The car drives perfectly, the engine is alert, the sound is enchanting. The gearbox has been completely overhauled and is precise, as is the steering. The braking system is efficient and effective, and the icing on the cake is a heater, a rare option at the time.

The previous owner had made the following changes: fuel pump / regulator / silent blocks stab bar / rear brake hoses / revised steering box.

The car is very beautiful with a very sound chassis, perfect body alignments, a very nice paint job. The interior is sumptuous, the upholstery magnificent, the soft top superb, the car is very unique in this livery. The chrome is perfect, the headlights are new, the car is ready to go.

Our opinion. If you are looking for an exceptional Austin Healey, this is the car for you. This car is very nice and all the care has been taken.
