Description

With some cars’s the story sometimes seems even more fun than the car itself. That is of course not the case, but it is often leading for the way in which a car is documented. That is absolutely the case with this car. The car in question is a beautiful Austin Healey 3000 Mk2 prepared for participation in classic car rally’s such as the Tulip Rally. The car was delivered new in 1962 in the United States and came to the Netherlands in 2001. The car was subjected to an extensive purchase inspection by the previous owner, together with Austin Healey specialist Michiel Capelle. After the basis was found to be good, a rigorous restoration was started. As usual the restoration was carried out with a clear goal in mind. The goal was simple: build a super solid Austin Healey 3000 Mk2 that is perfectly suited to participate in multi-day rallies. As far as we are concerned, that goal was amply achieved. The Healey was red when we bought it but is now back in its original silver paint. Upon arrival at Capelle we did not wait a second and the car was dismantled from top to toe. The bodywork and chassis were subjected to an extensive restoration and the entire technique was overhauled. First of all the body and chassis were brought back to bare metal and where necessary repaired. Then both were completely repainted. Although the work was done several years ago now, the car still looks beautiful. The Healey has been neatly maintained after the restoration. The bodywork obviously has some light traces of use that match the history and condition of the car. The bodywork, however, is beautifully thin and fits everywhere nicely. Even the factory fitted hardtop fits perfectly and looks great. For those days when it is very hot, a hatch can be opened at the rear to allow hot air to escape. The car is on beautiful Minilite wheels with good tires around them in the correct sizes. The interior excels in simplicity and efficiency. The interior of the Austin Healey is covered with beautiful blue carpets and blue leather on the seats. Both the leather and carpets are in clean cared for condition with some light signs of use. The roll cage is painted in the color of the car. The dashboard is equipped with a beautiful classic trip master The instruments and controls are all neatly arranged and look great. Finally, the delicious three-spoke sport steering wheel stands out. The technique of this Austin Healey 3000 Mk2 has been constantly maintained by Michiel Capelle since the restoration. The car drives great and is top fit. This Austin Healey has lacked nothing in the past two decades. This is not a tired rally car but a beautifully maintained and very strong Austin Healey. The engine runs beautifully and is very powerful. The transmission can be controlled precisely and transfers the driving forces evenly to the rear wheels via a limited slip differential. The car comes with an extensive photo report of the purchase and restoration. In addition, there is some documentation of the rest of the existence of the car. In short a beautiful Austin Healey 3000 Mk2 that is ready for rally ’s like the Tulip Rally and needs no more than a good mood driver and an occasional full tank of fuel.
