Description

Discover a rare and exceptional piece of automotive history, the 1959 Sprite I "Frog-eyes", carefully restored and exclusively available for sale by Veitura. At the request of Leonard Lord in the mid-1950s, Donald Healey designed the Sprite, a small two-seater meeting the criteria of the old MG Midgets. This compact car, measuring 3.5 meters long, is powered by a BMC type A engine of 948 cc and 43 hp.

The uniqueness of the Sprite I lies in its fully tilting bonnet and front wings, offering complete access to the mechanics. Its distinctive design is also marked by headlights placed on the bonnet, earning it the nickname "frog-eyes". The total production of the Sprite I "Frog-eyes" amounts to 38,999 units.

The exclusive specimen offered by Veitura dates back to 1959 and underwent a complete restoration in 2019 by its owner. This restoration involved meticulous work, including sandblasting of the shell and chassis, mechanical overhaul, and full restoration of the interior upholstery. Over 600 hours of work were dedicated to these efforts, and a detailed photo dossier of the restoration is available.

Highlights of the restoration include sandblasting of the shell and chassis, valve adjustments, carburetor overhauls, new wiring harness, electronic ignition, additional fan, improved braking with new drums, brake shoes and calipers, new suspension leaf spring, oil pan overhaul, new fuel tank, new clutch, treatment of chassis hollow bodies, and fully reupholstered foam and skai seats. Additionally, the car comes equipped with new side-screens and a hood.

The car will be accompanied by a spare engine with carburetor and ignition, as well as a set of spare parts. A voluntary technical inspection was carried out in February 2024 and is favorable.

This 1959 Sprite I "Frog-eyes" is therefore in exceptional condition, and it has been featured in a video report in Gazoline, accessible via a link in the advertisement. Do not miss the opportunity to own this iconic piece of automotive history.
