Description

1934 Austin 10/4 Saloon

Chassis number: G37693

Registration Number: YD9776

A charming little Austin that has undergone much mechanical restoration whilst retaining a pleasingly original interior etc. The car at one time resided in the gagage of the well known late collector of cars Mr Barry Burnett. The car was in his garage with the body off the chassis when his premises suffered a fire with a number of cars being destroyed & the contents of the garage subject to an insurance payout. The Austin fortunately survived undamaged & the components were purchased by a Phil Taylor of Froome who restored & put the car back together.

The car was recommissioned between November 2009 and September 2010 from the chassis upwards, replacing worn components. The Engine was reassembled with new valve guides, pistons, timing chain, clutch springs, linings, gearbox bearings and selector springs. After strengthening the body support channels, replacing quite a lot of woodwork, redoing 'open' roof space, painting, rewiring, etc.etc., the car was mobile in July 2010 (for the first time in about 36 years! !! ! )

The car is now driving beautifully with a smooth willing engine that starts readily. It forms part of a small private collection containing more illustrious stable mates such as a Rolls Royce & a WO bentley where it has been maintained without regard to cost.

The paintwork is a deep blue over black & in good order. The interior has original coverings to the doors & rear seats with the front seats having been tastefully redone to give an older appearance. The running boards have their original Austin logo rubber running board covers in situ. Being a 1934 car it is a 12 volt electrical stystem. All correct instrumentation is found within the dash board.

Assorted books, bills, pictures & the original buff log book come with the car. New tyres are fitted all round & a rear mounted spare is in situ. The cable activated brakes operate well & pull the car up sharply. The gear box being a '34 model benefits from synchromesh in the upper gears making it an easy car to drive.

The car is lots of fun for the money & is in super running condition thoughout.
