The Mini countryman represents one of the most charming iterations of the classic Mini, offering the familiar agility and character of the original Issigonis design, but with the added practicallity of an estate body and beautifully executed timber trim. Introduced in the early 1960’s, these wood framed countryman models have become increasingly scarse. DVLA records suggest only around 86 examples remain, making high quality survivors very rare and desirable among collectors. For many, the Countryman strikes the sweet spot between iconic Mini heritage and genuine usability. A classic that can turn heads at shows one weekend and run you to the shops or that delightful picnic the next.
This 1964 Austin Mini Countryman stands out immediately for the quality of its restoration. Subject to a full body nut and bolt rebuild, completed 2016 by Midnight Classic Minis in Lincoln. It has been returned to its original specification using as many factory components as possible. The work carried out to an award-winning standard, right down to a reconditioned steering wheel. The underside presenting in near as new condition, being clean, rust free and equipped with a stainless steal exhaust. A photographic record of the restoration is available, showing the work from start to finnish to provide excellent provenance for collectors and purists alike.
Finished in Almond Green, with immacuate timberwork and interior, the Mini looks every inch the period vehicle it is meant to be. The body, doors, floors, front subframe and steering components remain original to the car, with only the front wings beeing replaced during the restoration. The original 848cc engine and gearbox have been refurbished, ensuring it drives just as crisply as it presents. Sympathetically, the only deviation from factory specification is a 12v power outlet fitted under the dasboard allowing for modern conveniences like phone charging or sat nav use. Just a thoughtful touch I added, but can easily be removed.
Ownership history is showing just 3 previous owners before myself. First registered in March 1964 it comes with its original bill of sale for £564.12d, dated 20/03/1964, listing delivery charges, number plates, antifreeze and road fund licence. A delightful period artifact seldom seen today. Also present, is the original buff log book, showing its second owner Eric and Anna Oakes, who used the Mini as a family car until 1984. After being stored for three decades, it was brought out in 2014 which was when the restoration started and was completed in 2016 and has retained its condition from then until this present day. A true testemony to the standard of work carried out.
To conclude. This is a beautifully restored, highly authentic Countryman, with very low ownership that wants no work doing to it. Exceptional documentation, including a full clear HPI report ( available on request ) and MOT, with no advisory’s until 24/08/2026. Rarity, condition, originality and charm all converge here, making this Mini Countryman an opportunity not easily repeated. So, for concours lawns, Sunday meets, or simply the joy of driving a classic car that turns heads, this is a Mini that will make a statement wherever it goes. In other words, one you would be proud to own.
