The Bentley 'Blower', an icon when it comes to pre-war cars and unsurpassed in its time when it comes to performance. Nowadays, the original Bentley 'Blower' is the inspiration for many remakes but the most fun is of course when it is a échte Bentley. The car we offer here is one that already began its life as a Bentley 4 ½ Litre and has a wonderful history.A man of distinction, that Leonard Courtney, that must be if you can buy a new Bentley in 1929. And so he put his signature to the contract of his Bentley 4 ½ Litre Saloon with body by Morgan, built on the Weyman principle. That is, the body consists of a wooden frame that is upholstered. He was able to collect the car that year from Roots Ltd, at Piccadilly W1, London. Eéone of the most prestigious dealers, in ééone of the most luxurious districts of London at the time. There is no shortage of history and documentation on this Bentley. For example, the car is included in the famous book ‘The Vintage Years’, by Clare Hay. From the first decades handwritten documents are present in which purchase and interim sales, maintenance and modifications are described. Some 73 years ago, the Bentley is then 21 years old, the then owner decides to replace the bodywork with the current one, an Open Tourer, from Vanden Plas. Another couple of decades pass when, in 1989, the Roots Supercharger is installed. Note: this is all documented. In 2001 the 'Blower' ends up with its most recent owner, living in the Netherlands. Should you now think that the car was then maintained at the garage around the corner: nothing could be further from the truth, for maintenance the owner drove the Bentley to England, under the guise of "only the very best" maintenance by the best specialists there is. Again, documentation is present in the form of a large pile of invoices. The current owner decides that there is even more potential in the Bentley and has it completely body-off restored in 2003, including a complete restoration of the chassis. The bodywork, interior and technology were all restored and overhauled according to the 'no expense spared' principle, after which the car was completely Le Mans Spec rebuilt. In detail, all features, parts and specifications were made similar to Le Mans Bentleys. Also the Blower was enlarged to Le Mans specifications and, almost naturally, there is documentation available. To put the finishing touches to the i's, in 2007 an overhaul was done to ‘crown and pignon’, differential, cardan, so basically everything from the engine ‘to the rear’.After that full restoration, the Bentley has only been driven minimally, only a few thousand fantastic miles have been undertaken with the 'Blower'. The result is that we can offer an exceptionally beautiful Bentley 4 ½ Litre in a formidable condition and with a wonderful, well-documented history. A car such as we will not soon come across a second one.
