Description

1936 Derby bentley 4.25 litre Park Ward Sports Saloon

Chassis number: B-100-GA

Registration Number: CXR3

The first owner of the car was George Jeffrey Smith, Managing Editor of the Autocar Magazine whom was an afficionado & had a variety of new Derby Bentleys. He specified the whole car having a magnificent dashboard reminiscent of a 1930’s aircraft with all silver finished dials, heater, screen demister, map lights, internal lights, cigarette lighters and all are still fitted as original and the car has recently had a new headlining. The car features in a number of period press listings of the time. I have never handled a Bentley before with such a wide range of options all of which work as when new. The dash is simply magnificent & needs to be seen to be appreciated.

Much work has been done to the car including new Tyres all round, a rebuilt starter motor & carburettors, twin fuel pumps, & a full brake system overhaul including new linings & servo adjustment. As a result the brakes are pin sharp & have a modern car feel to them which is so often lacking in cars with poor servo assistance.

The was for some time in Canada where the engine was rebuilt & the engine bay brought up to show standards. given a thorough clean it will again be ready for display at shows etc.

The interior of the car is opulent & luxurious maroon leather all in fine order. Rear picnic tables are fitted. Most chrome has been redone so presents beautifully. The two tone cream & yellow paintwork is older & has some cracks & minor blemishes in it & would be the first area to spend money on if the car were to be improved. It is however in very good strong running order & ready to be used as is. Oil pressure is excellent & the car runs cool. It has been serviced & looked after by Mr Ian Pinder of the noted RR&B garages whom's work & reputation are second to none in Derby Bentley & Rolls Royce circles. The car is currently booked in there for a pre sale service by the fastidious owner who wants the car to go to the next owner in as good a condition as possible.

Viewings will be in the South Birmingham area.
