Description

It is 1946 when Bentley is ready to present the first new model after the war: the Mk VI. A descendant of the 4¼ Litre but with important improvements such as independent front suspension and more engine power. The Bentley may be in the same category as the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn but it is just a bit smaller and lighter. The engine, the familiar 4.25-liter six-cylinder manages to produce 137 horsepower. An amount that not many cars at the time have on board.Mr. L. Dore-Smith must be a man of character, otherwise you would not buy a unique Bentley Mk VI with open Park Ward bodywork in 1949. And not just any bodywork but one with a story. Bentley had eight prototypes built of the Mk VI, with chassis numbers 1-B-VI through 8-B-VI. Seven of them are fitted with a closed body. Chassis number 5-B-VI received the only open Drophead Coupe body from exclusive supplier Park Ward. These were cars that were very intensively tested and 5-B-VI was scrapped in 1949, with a whopping 141,000 miles. The special part of this story: the bodywork was spared, disassembled and preserved. And so it may be that this car still exists. Dore-Smith had the bodywork put on the '49 chassis a short year later, and so this English convertible was delivered in 1950 to its first, undoubtedly very proud happy owner who suddenly had a Bentley with prototype status. In previous years, thorough restoration work was done on the car. As a result, the Royal Blue body, with its "short-wing" fenders looks both unique and very stylish. Even the technology and the very stylish gray interior with beautiful woodwork have already been completely taken care of. You can take it from us that all the details look at least as beautiful in real life as they do in the photos, the car is exceptionally beautiful, both outside and inside. The 4,257 cc metering six-cylinder is a wonderful engine with its two twin SU carburetors. With plenty of torque and power, the Bentley is a tremendously smooth car to drive. Hydraulic power steering was used on a Bentley for the first time. Comfort, quietness, suppleness, all together makes a Bentley from this period a unique experience. In recent years, the car has been very well maintained and the last maintenance took place recently. Many such cars are part of collections where they are virtually unused but this car has simply been very well maintained, as evidenced by the thick pack of invoices. A complete file with history, maintenance, many inspection certificates and interesting documents complete the beautiful history of this Bentley.
