Description

In 1959, the Bentley S2 was exhibited to the world. The exterior looked identical to that of its predecessor, the S1, but the technology was indeed new. In fact, the S2 was equipped with a new 6,230 cc aluminum V8 engine. Despite the squarer layout of the V8, as the six-cylinder it replaced was in fact longer and narrower, the new powerplant fit effortlessly into the large engine bay of the English mastodon. The S2 proved to be a success, both in the home market and far beyond. In addition to the two- and four-door saloon, a small number were also delivered as Drophead Coupe. These versions were built by Coachbuilders such as Park Ward, Hooper, H. J. Mulliner & Co., and James Young.More than one hundred convertibles were built, using a Rolls-Royce Cloud II or Bentley S2 as a basis. By far the most popular was H. J. Mulliner's open version, design number 7504 to be exact. This version is seen as the last true coachbuilt Bentley and that is partly why this model is so popular today. And now this 'exceptional beauty' is in the Netherlands. It will not come as a surprise that the car was cherished after the conversion. The bodywork is therefore in restored top condition, with paint and panels all perfect. The car exudes a rare amount of elegance and class. The dark blue paint fits the car wonderfully and does tremendous justice to the literally and figuratively stunning chrome work. A car that is "finished," we say.The interior is of unprecedented quality. Only the best materials have been used, such as the beautiful leather and stylish wooden parts. Again, everything is in a condition bordering on 'new', again due to the complete restoration when the car was transformed Drophead Coupe. The light-colored leather and immaculate carpeting are stunning and the gleaming wood dashboard truly fantastic. Again, no user marks that detract from the overall look, both wood and gauges and controls are just in top condition. Yes, we realize it: the superlatives fly by but then they all apply to this classic. The Bentley's technology is "on point," with invoices from the last two years alone of over €12,000. The S2 received all the care it deserved, and more. Preventive maintenance was standard and if anything needed replacing it was done at a brand specialist. As a result, all things that matter, including brakes, suspension, steering and of course engine and transmission, are 100% fresh and ready to take a next owner from A, with a detour, to B at a royal level.
