Description

History
BMW took over Glas in 1966 and inherited fantastic Frua bodies commissioned by Hans Glas; used in the Glas 1300 and 1700 GT Coupé. Another Frua design was the big Gals V8 coupe. At the time, BMW streamlined the glass sales program and used the legendary and high-revving 1.6 liter BMW ti engine in the GT coupés, equipped with 2 double Solex carburettors and good for 105 hp. Furthermore, among other things, the front axle was modified and, in addition to other technical modifications, "space" was also created for the legendary BMW kidney. This breathtaking body combined with this classy engine, an extraordinarily successful combination, as the specialist journalists also confirmed. The only crux was that BMW launched the 02 series at the same time and these competed with the 1600 GT. Unfortunately, after a construction period of almost 1 year and approx. 1250 vehicles, production was stopped in August 1968.

Vehicle history of the BMW 1600 GT offered here
The BMW 1600 GT offered here is demonstrably second-hand. The original cardboard cover vehicle registration is also available. This BMW was first delivered in August 1968 in silver metallic and was one of the last vehicles manufactured by BMW with the special Frua dress. Over the years, this coupe has been repainted in the current color by the first owner. According to the heirs, the silver metallic was simply too boring for the first owner. A few years ago we sold this 1600 GT to its 2nd owner. Despite all the fascination, it simply didn't get along with this sleek speedster with its more than 2 meters in size and so we now have the opportunity to offer this 1600 GT on the market for the second time. The engine is still original, the chassis and brakes are impeccable and the bodywork and paint finish are without complaints to this day. A Takata sports steering wheel is currently installed, as well as contemporary aluminum rims. The original steering wheel is included. A touch of patina can of course be seen, but contributes to the extraordinary flair that surrounds this vehicle. Most BMW 1600 GTs are in the hands of collectors. From our point of view, this sports coupé should not be missing in any ambitious collection, true to the motto: "Sheer Driving Pleasure".
